I am Emerita Professor at the University of Kent having taken early retirement in 2021 after nearly 30 years as a full-time legal academic.
I have written four research monographs and over 30 refereed journal articles and book chapters. I have also co-edited five collections, served on journal editorial boards, and spent decades reviewing manuscripts for journals and publishers. My work has crossed many disciplinary boundaries in the social sciences and humanities and I have published in leading journals in law, sociology, politics, gender and sexuality studies, Jewish studies, interdisciplinary geography, and communication studies. I have acted as a research mentor to dozens of colleagues over the years.
Within the UK higher education sector, I have undertaken significant responsibilities in university and research management having had the roles of Head of School (twice), Director of Research (twice), and Research Excellence Framework Coordinator for my Unit of Assessment (3 times). I have played a leading role in every RAE and REF submission in two universities since RAE2001.
The results for my UoA’s submission in:
2001: 5*A (Keele University Law School, one of only five such results in UK)
2008: 6th in GPA rankings (Kent Law School)
2014: 7th in Research Power and 17th in GPA (Kent Law School)
2021: 2nd in GPA (Kent Law School)
